294-home scheme planned for former school site

A planning application has been lodged to build nearly 300 homes on a former school site north of Nottingham city centre.

Countryside Properties has proposed a £35m development on the site of the former Padstow School, in Bestwood. It was appointed by Nottingham City Council as the site’s developer in July.

The school closed in 2000 and the buildings have since been demolished. The residential scheme at Bestwood Padstow would create 294 homes if approved, and one-quarter of the site would be affordable homes.

The plans would see 43 four-bed, 134 three-bed, 108 two-bed, and nine one-bed homes built – a reduction of around 50 homes on the original vision for the site.

In a statement, Countryside said: “The proposed development is locally responsive, to suit the site’s unique attributes with a vision to create a sustainable development which is specific to its setting.”

The scheme will shortly be considered by Nottingham City Council’s planning committee.
