Summer In Nottingham: Explore The East Midlands This Season

With family-friendly suburbs, beautiful green spaces and a bustling city centre, it’s no surprise that Nottingham is one of the fastest-growing cities in the country for homebuyers and renters. Nottingham for the Food Lovers: 

If your tastebuds are tantalised by BBQ’s or if the thought of street food gets them tingling, then The Festival of Food and Drink sounds like the place for you! With demonstrations, cocktail classes, cookery workshops, live music and a wide range of traders to try from, head down to Thoresby Park between the 16th and 17th September for a truly epic food extravaganza. 

Nottingham for the Sports Enthusiasts:

The Hundred returns to Trent Bridge Cricket Ground on the 9th of August for four days of sporting aaaaction! Experience the fast-paced 100 ball tournament and experience a new way to watch cricket whilst you cheer on the mighty Trent Rockets. But The Hundred isn’t just an epic game of sport, with live performances and entertainment on the main stage, this is a fantastic day out for families and friends. 

Nottingham for the Seaside Lovers:

Nottingham Beach is back until the 3rd September! Head down to Old Market Square for a splash of the seaside in the middle of the city. Relax on the deckchairs, cool off on the giant Slip ‘n Slide, or take a seat at the beach bar. With a range of attractions for all ages, Nottingham Beach is the perfect day out for the family this summer. 

Nottingham for a Vibrant Day Out:

If you’re looking for a day that is filled with vibrancy, colour and energy then look no further than Nottingham Carnival. Catch the parade through our bustling streets, or head down to the Carnival site and enjoy a wide variety of live music, DJ’s, refreshments and fairground rides. Nottingham Carnival is around for one day only, so don’t miss out on Sunday 20th August!

Nottingham for the Movie Fanatics:

The Adventure Cinema comes to Newstead Abbey on the 13th September! Newstead Abbey boasts a colourful history and for two nights only, the Abbey lawn will be home to the open-air cinema. So, pack a picnic and transport yourself to L.A. to watch Pretty Woman or pull on your best overalls* and watch the action-packed Top Gun Maverick.

Nottingham for the Adventure Seekers: 

Walk in Robin Hood’s footsteps and spend the day at Sherwood Forest. Set over 350 hectares, the forest is full to the brim of nature and magical tales of Robin and his merry men. Whilst we don’t condone stealing, if you want to experience some of Robin Hood’s adventures, make sure to stop by the Major Oak. This ancient giant has been standing for an estimated 1000 years and was Robin Hood’s famous hiding place whilst escaping the sheriff. Sherwood Forest is bursting with activities for the family this summer, including archery, wicker weaving and the famous Robin Hood festival.

It’s not just a fantastic calendar of events that make Nottingham so appealing. Nottingham is in the midst of extensive regeneration, including the expansion of HS2 which will allow commuters to reach Birmingham and London in less than an hour. Many companies such as Boots, E.ON, Siemens, Speedo and Capital One have chosen Nottingham as the home for their headquarters, bringing in a range of employment opportunities and new employees to the region. Rising demand in Nottingham is also supported by the two fantastic universities, both of which attract local and international students to the city.  

With all of this in mind, it’s no surprise that Nottingham house prices were up 9% from 2022 to £258,453, the region, unlike most of the South of England is 16% up on 2020 peak property prices of £222,423. The majority of sales in the city were semi-detached homes, showing that many are looking to areas such as West Bridgford or The Park for family homes. The rise in sale prices has also supported the local rental market, supporting rental growth of 11.9% in 2022. This growth has created impressive yields in the region, with postcodes NG1 and NG7 producing a massive average yield of 10% (that’s double that national average!)
