If you are familiar with the build to rent property market, you will undoubtedly know of UKAA. As the leading association for the BTR industry, UKAA – an acronym for UK Apartment Association – is well known for hosting an annual expo that brings industry professionals together to discuss Better BTR Business. This year’s event, held on Thursday 19th April in the Business Design Centre in Islington, London and once again brought insight and opportunity for the BTR world.
The expo always provides industry experts and newcomers with the opportunity to network, collaborate and share their knowledge on the ever-evolving world of BTR. As the fastest growing sub-sector of the broader property industry, the build to rent space is developing at an astonishing pace, having a transformative impact on the outlook of the modern rental market. BTR developments are widely recognised as a potential route to improving the UK’s impending housing crisis by providing high-quality housing to searching tenants, as well as delivering a viable alternative for those looking for long-term homes without the commitment of purchasing a property outright.
At this years’ UKAA BTR expo we heard from a range of developers, service providers and platforms around the opportunities and challenges that the industry faces in delivering on the promise of BTR. Not least is the challenge of expansion, with 4.3bn invested in BTR schemes in 2022 but whilst Homeviews and Rightmove’s Build to Rent Report still shows that Build to Rent schemes are outperforming the PRS market ratings for the first year since the report began ratings have dipped. In the face of a challenging year then UKAA presents an opportunity to build on best practice and look to innovate for the future.
With a long standing history and wealth of experience in BTR solutions, Centrick were delighted to be bringing our flagship BTR brand VICI to the UKAA BTR Expo. Director of BTR Neelam Saihjpal, and Group Business Director Jane Morcom, both attended the event – bringing their knowledge and expertise to the table and meet fellow BTR business representatives from across the country.
In line with this year’s expo theme, ‘Better BTR Business’, the BTR expo dealt with hot topics such as a Call for Leadership, Whole Life Costing and Operator Procurement Processes. Insightful debate around NOI, Community Engagement and the future of housing ensued throughout the day wth team VICI on hand to discuss these important topics, offer valuable insight to our industry peers, and learn from their unique perspectives to create a better BTR space that benefits tenants, developers and agencies alike.
